The woman in red...

"Everyone deserves to sparkle"

We took these photos away on our adventure skiing for Ellens photography assignment at school.
The amazing weather did mean our day skiing was a little rough, but it also meant these photos turned out pretty well, so we thought we would share them with you all...

Taking care of some of the puddles in the road...

"A man gazing on the stars is proverbially at the mercy of the puddles in the road"
 - Alexander Smith

Don't look at puddles as a negative! Buy a pair of gumboots, channel your inner child and splash your way forwards!
Of course (typical Auckland) the day I chose to wear them it was sunny by the afternoon.
But I made the most of those puddles while they were still there!

When I was on my gumboot mission I thought I might end up with something very plain cliche New Zealand black gumboots
(Footrot Flats minus the mud), but I was surprised to find this polka dot pair at the Warehouse (similar to Walmart).

gumboots - The Warehouse
scarf - I knitted
dress - Glassons
jacket - Just Jeans
(can you spot the lego watch)

For now they sit in my awaiting the next rainy day in Auckland.
After being used many days through snow slush puddles they're probably feeling a bit neglected!

The ways of our travelling..

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.”
 – St. Augustine

While we cant afford to jet set (yet...), we still love a good old road trip down to the Mountain for some skiing!

A quick stop at Volcano Coffee to prepare ourselves for the day skiing ahead of us.
It's a shame we have to drive 5 hours to get to this amazing little place!
A bit of self photography on the mountain.

Back to Volcano Coffee for some giant authentic pizza for dinner.
And a view of the lovely mountain.

The language of flowers and fairies...

"A fox is a wolf who sends flowers."
- Ruth Brown

A flower can be more than just a plant.
It can be a symbol, a message of love or sympathy, bring joy to dark moments
and say what is not dared to be spoken.
Flowers have had their own language ever since the 1800s during the Victorian era, where small round bouquets called "Tussie-Mussies" were made with different symbolic flowers as means of communications.
Although "Tussie-Mussies" are no longer common in the modern world, the idea of different flowers having specific meanings is still alive. Red roses still imply romance and love, much like yellow roses are meant to show friendship and devotion.

Flowers have always been apart of fashion, but recently I've loved how they are worn as a hair accessory. My desire for a realistic flower headband has now been filled, I picked this up last Saturday at 'The Third Eye'

Revealing, sources and all...

"The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources."

While incredibly smart, I don't know how well Einstein would have achieved in modern schooling
if he stood by this and never used references!
Today I bring to you the first of the necklace projects I started working on during the holidays.
For these I was inspired by the great pieces by Susanna Galanis (you may have seen some on Gossip Girl).
Unfortunately my student budget is not near enough to be able to afford any of her jewelry
or the materials to make some, so i had to get creative...

I used a combination of video tutorials of youtube on creating rock lookalikes using fimo.
This particular piece uses methods such as fake turquoise (for the veining) and lava rock texture (using salt for the pitting/edges). There are a lot of tutorials like this around, so if you want to give making some jewelry a go just combine some for the look you'd like!
Overall I was pretty pleased how this turned out, and when I get more time there's a couple of other ideas I'm planning to try out.

Necklace and Jacket - made by me
nail polish - Jaffa by Butter London
Lipstick - Neon Orange by MAC

 ~Max Frisch

When your forced into an ugly, woollen, skirt of horror that they call a uniform for 5 days a week, Saturday and Sunday are your days of freedom.
Maybe my fashion restrictions during the week are what cause the creation of my flamboyant and colourful weekend looks.

Stealth mode activated...

"Yeah. Well, I was in stealth mode. Still got the scarf on my head and everything."
-Ethan Tremble (Due Date)

Its my first week back at University after spending two amazing weeks Skiing/Boarding down at Mt Ruapehu.
So after all that ski gear it was nice to get back to something a bit more in the fashion line.

When I was getting dressed today I forgot that I was meeting strangers to trade textbooks with.
Somehow I had managed to dress in nearly entirely black!
But a bit of my new neon orange lipstick, seemed to remedy that,
not too many people with that kind of loud make up walking around my uni.

Boots - Tony Bianco
Top - Glassons
Clutch - Asos
Scarf - hand-knitted by me
Nail Polish - Jaffa by Butter London
Lipstick - Neon Orange by MAC

Although I enjoyed my time away, its good to come back home to internet and some of my unfinished holiday projects.
At the moment I've only got one done, but look forwards to some photos of that in the next couple of days!

Oh so charming and cute...

"It takes all the fun out of the bracelet if you have to buy it yourself"

-Peggy Joyce

I received this charm bracelet courtesy of "Cutey" in the mail the other day. Each bracelet and bead combination has a different name meaning behind it. This particular charm bracelet is called Gaia, named after the Greek Goddess of the Earth. The bracelet is meant to embrace the soil, foliage, roots and branches of our life. It symbolises a love of nature with a gorgeous green bead and a wooden one to keep you grounded and connected to the earth.

So inspired by my new bracelet, i put together an outfit with a neutral colour pallet, mixing browns, blacks, greys and creams.
I then accessorized it with a woven vintage belt and a feather head band.

I think this a particularly gorgeous bracelet from Cutey with a awesome meaning to it.

Shoes glorious shoes...

"I definitely spend the most money on shoes, partly because vintage footwear can be a little funky - in a bad way. I like to keep things pretty simple up top and then go weird with the shoes."
-Chloe Sevigny

It saddens me to say that these gorgeous red boots are not actually mine.
Erin bought them on our last shopping expedition and I just had to snap some photos of them to share with you guys!
Are they not gorgeous?
