NZ Fashion Festival - Mac seminar (trends)

"Just because you want to be glamorous, don't be a sheep about your eye makeup."

Another year marches on, bringing with it little highlights like the New Zealand Fashion Festival.
We missed last years events, and after hearing about how great the Mac Technique Seminars
I had to grab a ticket this year.

The whole event was very well organised, with big screens set up so you could see exactly how the looks came together.

The four trends this seminar was on were called 'Ath-elite', 'Ore-inspired', 'Neo-n', and Nouv'eau' all brought together into either an editorial or everyday look.

Each goody bag (more on that later) also came with a folder with face charts and information about each trend.

The Neo-n editorial look in the making

My favourite trend was probably the Neo-n. "Neoprene" colour against fresh athletic skin.
For outside photo shoots they said it was best to concentrate on one area of colour,
whether it be lips or eyes as a single focus.

Finished everyday look

One product that took my eye was the soon to be released in NZ 'Shop Mac Cook Mac' limited edition  cremeblend blusher. Something I'll have to check out when it reaches our stores

And yes finally the goody bag. The mac seminars are quite well known for these
and I've gotta say it contributed to some of the motivation to skip a lecture to go.
Each bag came with a $50 voucher plus a opulash mascara and lip product.

I managed to luck out with a pro longwear lipcreme in 'dress it up'.
A colour that I have immediately fallen in love with, score!

Overall the fashion festival seminars are a fantastically organised and enjoyable event, we came home with new knowledge (and personally confidence to try) some of the new makeup trends of this year.

There's still another seminar on Friday you can still grab tickets to,
and I'm looking forwards to attending the Collections 4 show tomorrow!

The Object of my Desire

"Funny That a pair of really nice shoes make us feel in our heads - at the extreme opposite end of our bodies"
- Levende Waters

To desire means to strongly wish for or want something.
An object of desire can be anything. A new car, an iPhone, or maybe the latest video game for your xbox,.
Everyone has different desires. The things I spend my time craving for are usually clothes, shoes and handbags.
Materialistic much? I know, but i cant help myself ;)

For awhile I have been looking for the perfect backpack.
I wanted something cute and chic, and when my sister and I came across this gorgeous bag from OASAP we had to have it!

It arrived on our doorstep just a few days ago and we have been dying to share it with you all.
It's the perfect size to carry all your bits and bobs for uni (trailed and approved by Tara on her first day back).
It's nicely made with multiple straps so you can decide if you want to wear it like a backpack or a shoulder bag.
Overall, I personally give this bag a big fat 'A' for ah-dorable.

You can buy the bag HERE from online store OASAP

...

“It is the obvious which is so difficult to see most of the time. People say
'It's as plain as the nose on your face.' But how much of the nose on your face
can you see, unless someone holds a mirror up to you?”

It was a hot humid day today in Auckland so a summery and cool
outfit was called for to run around doing errands in...

Normally I have to make a conscious effort not to slip in too much black into an outfit!

Is there a colour in your wardrobe you struggle to avoid?

The colour of love...

"Only great minds can afford a simple style."

Stendal

The symbolic meaning of pink is joy and happiness.
I was 'Tickled Pink' today and thought I would share some photos of some pink toned bits and bobs that i have been loving recently...

Jandals, Thongs, AND Flip Flops?!?

"Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world."
- Marilyn Monroe
I was searching for yet another fashion quote to start off this blog post and i came across these wise words of Marilyn Monroe.
I'm a great lover of a any pair of heels (i'm not one to discriminate, wedges, boots or plan black stilettos, i love them all) and in most outfit posts i like to steal a pair of my sisters because they always make an outfit look that much better. Even though in fashion we believe in beauty not comfort, i couldnt help but reach for my jandals for an afternoon walk in the sun.
I know, i deserve a slap on the wrist as punishment for going against the laws of high fashion! But on the streets of New Zealand, almost anything goes and our jandals are like a second skin for us!
So today i 'conquered the world' with the right kind of shoes just as Marilyn Monroe stated.

I paired my 'Roxy' jandals with my 'Glassons' bow belt and 'Valley Girl' maxi dress. I topped of the summery look with my sunglasses and my beloved vintage bag.

So do it like us Kiwi's and break out your jandals, or flip flops or thongs, whatever you call it in your home town!

Trying a new direction...

"Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new."

Today I tried something new with a business shirt...

I really cant take that much credit,
the look is just how I carried out an idea from this video
and there are also many more like it around the internet

Are there any ways you know how change the way you wear a classic garment?

Hearts, Red and Romance

"The most beautiful makeup of a woman is passion. But cosmetics are easier to buy."
-Yves Saint-Laurent
One always feels good in a classic red dress. No matter the shape or style, It makes every girl look good and feel special. And what's better than just another red dress from a chain store? A vintage one that's been passed through the family.

This gorgeous piece was once my mothers but has currently found a new home between mine and my sisters closet.

Since the Valentines feeling is still in the air, I paired the dress with a dreamy romantic hair-do and a heart necklace.

Again and Again...

“What you see and hear depends a good deal on where you are standing:
it also depends on what sort of person you are.”

Perspective and point of view are so important.
Two people can look at the same object and see it in very different ways.

These are some photos looking from another direction at the same skirt, different person, different thinking, different outcome...

Do you ever find it fascinating to consider how differently someone else can view the world around us?

Till next time...

You cant help but love PINK

"One Should either be a work of art or wear a work of art"
- Oscar Wilde

Purple. Pink. Orange. Yellow.
Every street I walk down I'm seeing colour this season in New Zealand.
While others battle snow and stick to their grey palettes, I'm drawing energy from the sunny sky and wearing bright colourful outfits.

Feeling inspired by the February Australian Vogue magazine, I painted my nails and gathered all the purple objects I could find in my room...

What colours are you wearing this season?

Those little white socks

"I think there is beauty in everything. What ‘normal’ people would perceive as ugly, I can usually see something of beauty in it."
- Alexander McQueen
The object: White school uniform socks

The problem: Usually worn with ugly black lace ups (and not the cool kind, im talking huge heavy shoes to match ugly plaid uniforms)
The solution is simple:  Draw out the classic vintage heart of these socks. They have been around for ages, so work with that. Pair them with vintage shoes, or like me, brown oxfords.  Work from there and build your outfit.

The Dragon

"It does not do to leave a live dragon out of your calculations, if you live near him."

In celebration of the new year of the dragon this year I attended the Auckland Lantern Festival.

With a wide array of beautiful lanterns and all sorts of food stalls it was a fun night.

There were some amazing lanterns around, being year of the dragon though meant there was more amazing dragons than usual.

It was a warm night in Auckland, so I could get away with a dress and linen blazer,
and with all the walking comfortable wedges were a must.

Have you done anything to celebrate the Chinese new year?
