The final touches...

"We had to decide: Do we want to do Saturday Night or go to our Senior Prom? We opted for Saturday Night Live."

- Mary-Kate Olsen

Every year parents spend hundreds, and sometimes thousands of dollars on their children's high school ball.
From suits to dresses, shoes, make-up and hair, High school balls or proms have become very elaborate affairs.
Formal dances have been around since the early 1800's but it wasn't till after the great depression and WW1 in American did proms and balls start to become what they are to teenagers today.
These once simple events where you wore your 'Sunday dress' have transformed over time into extremely extravagant nights of glam.
Although here in New Zealand, we don't all quite throw 'Proms' like the Americans, my high school ball has been all anyone has been talking about at school recently.
So I wanted to share some little snaps of my ball outfit with you all..

1. Details of my shoes
2. My second hand vintage pearls
3. Unlike most people, i decided on flats for ball. These gorgeous babies are from forever new (got them on sale down from $80 to $25!).
4.  Rings also from forever new
5. The sewing pattern for my ball dress
6.  My ball ticket and rings

For those of you who have been following my blog for awhile now, you will know my mums been busy sewing my dress! With only a few more finishing touches till its done, ill happily be going to ball next week knowing that no one else will have the same dress as mine ;)

From Flag to Fashion...

"The whole inspiration of our life as a nation flows out from the waving folds of this banner. "
~Author Unknown

The american flag has become a popular fabric to wear.
Is it wierd to wear another country's flag on your chest for the sake of fashion?
Who would have thought one country's flag would be worn around the world on clothes as an everyday trend...

I picked out a few American flag pieces from my favourite online stores, what do you think?

The colour of a nation...

“You want to be taken seriously, stop dressing like a little girl”.
~Joan Holloway

A couple of weeks ago I attended the Gok Wan Style Tour in Westfield St Lukes.
When questioning the audience about what they struggled with when it came to personal style, many people responded with "I wear to much black".
After about the third person said this, Gok asked the crowd "What is with you New Zealanders, do you only ever where black?".
The crowd that had gathered in the mall all shouted back YES!
Us New Zealanders wear way to much black and we know it.
But maybe black is just every ones 'go to colour'? It certainly was mine today when I was stuck deciding what to wear...
I wore my favourite black skirt and styled it with metallic accents, like my new silver cuffs and second hand top.

Skirt: Atrium on Elliot
Top: Savemart ;)
Belt: Gift
Cuffs: Diva
Shoes: Number 1 Shoes

Whats your favourite colour to wear?

You don't always need a reason to create...

"We live not according to reason, but according to fashion."
 - Seneca

I keep telling myself not to by any more fabric until I finish what I've already got.
But what can you do when you find a great fabric on sale?
I found this when me and Ellen were looking for her ball dress fabric.
I was inspired to create a jumper that would be warm but make some of my more basic clothing combos a bit more interesting.
Here's the result :)

nail polish - Trout Pout by BUTTER London
necklace - parachute necklace from Amazon
shoes and clutch - asos
ring - Lovisa

I also got out of the bottom of my jewelry box a wire project I haven't worn in a while. I can't remember where the inspiration came from, but it was fun to make.
It's not long now until my exams are over, and I can't wait to get started on some
of those DIY projects I have lined up.
Maybe I could do a DIY post?
Let me know in the comments :)

Giveaway!

"Something you never knew you needed, now you have them in every colour"

3D glasses have become our new must have item for this season.

Watching 3D movies is now a glamorous stylish activity thanks to the range of glasses from Ingri:Dahl.

The Norwegian twins started the brand back in 2011. Now you can look stylish 24/7 with 3D glasses to match every outfit.
Tara and I particularly enjoyed our adventure to the cinemas last Saturday to see the avengers with our new glasses.
We saved a few dollars by having our own 3D glasses (meaning a little extra to spend on movie treaties!)
They didn't fall down every five seconds, the larger lenses helped to see the screen,
and even though we were sitting in a dark cinema we were definitely the most stylish there.

Love them? Well you can win a pair!
Thanks to Ingri:Dahl we have a pair to give away to one of our lovely followers!
The giveaway is international, enter here before the 12th of July

So what if I'm wearing chucks!

"What is it about shoes that makes me so happy? Maybe it's the possibility of the unknown adventure each pair may hold?"

Whenever I think of a journey I think of the shoes that start it all off.
My wardrobe is exploding with shoes and I have had to start stacking them up in boxes under my desk. Still I find myself yearning for many more pairs to add to my incomplete collection. I just don't have enough! And I'm not lying. I couldn't even find any suitable shoes to go with this outfit and comfy enough for a day  out shopping.
I had to convince my amazing ;) sister to let me wear her chucks.

I snapped a photo of all my friends shoes after our successful shopping trip. Stay tuned to see what I bought.

Dress: Vintage
Coat: Second hand

I think you have something on your tights...

"When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down 'happy'. They told me I didn't understand the assignment, and I told them they didn't understand life"
- John Lennon

After one attempt at trying to style these tights last winter, I gave up and they have been growing cobwebs in the back of my draw ever since. But now that winter is upon us once again, I found these tights again when I was searching for something to wear.
Challenge accepted. (A 'How I Meet Your Mother' reference there if anyone watches the show)
I made it my mission to style these tights into a casual outfit to wear out to dinner.

Hehe a photo within a photo :O

So what do you think? Mission accomplished?
