Beautiful lies...

"Truth is beautiful, without doubt; but so are lies."

Pretty Little Liars is a show that I always find myself never trusting anything that is shown or said.
(OMG can you believe this weeks finale?!)
But one thing I can trust in is the fashion. I always manage to see something that is beautiful or inspiring.

Ellen and I have posted about the style of the character Spencer Hastings from Pretty Little Liars before (see here and here).
And one of my favourite Spencer outfits of the season was a peplum look from the episode "What Lies Beneath".
Peplum is something I have been uncertain of, but this episode inspired me to go out pick one up.

I loved that Spencer had taken it in a more casual direction with jeans and lace-ups,
even though I didn't manage to find one I liked in as cool a pattern as she wore
(I believe the one from the show is from Macy's Petticoat Alley but no longer for sale)
I got one in one of my go to colours and in a slightly different style I think ill get a lot of wear out of.

peplum top - Valley Girl
belt - Kookai
Boots - Andrea Biani
spike bracelet - Asos (comes in lots of other colours)
bag with tail - Ellen's (vintage?)

I still would love to get a top maybe a bit closer to hers but for now this will satisfy me.
The bright blue colour, bracelets and animal print pattern bring some of my personal style into a Spencer look (might even be a little bit Aria?)
which I think an 'inspired by' outfit should include.

I cant wait to see what next season has to bring, both in plot and style!

Come pet my tail...

‎"It's always the badly dressed people who are the most interesting."
- Jean Paul Gaultie

Presenting the latest addition to my closet: the tail...
This little fury friend has had quite a trip coming all the way from Germany to my closet.
It is a gift from my friend Katelyn that she brought home for me after her adventures in Europe.

What do you think of the tail trend?
Airport customs certainly didn't understand it when Katelyn tried to explain why she was carrying a fox tail,
and my mother was also puzzled when she saw me wearing it.
Personally I think its fun and a little quirky.
No, I don't think ill be hopping around with it hanging off my but,
I think for now well just keep it on the handbag ;)

Like Crazy...

"Immature love says: 'I love you because I need you.'
Mature love says 'I need you because I love you.'"

I can't imagine how many times I have said I've needed some new fashion related item.
"I need this to complete this outfit."
"I need something new."
"I need warm jacket, I love this one, it will work well!"
But some of the things in my wardrobe weren't something that I "needed" because it was a necessary addition,
but because there was just something about it I loved.
This object seemed to say something, hold more meaning than just adornment;
I needed it because I loved it not the other way around.

a brand with jewelery that told me a story before I knew that's what the makers had intended.
Initially drawn in by charming the website, it wasn't long before I was enamored with a number of pieces.
One that I kept thinking about long after I'd clicked away was the Pocahontas Turqoise Charm Bracelet
I loved Pocahontas as a child and this bracelet simultaneously ignited nostalgia for the movie,
but also memories of playing in the natural playground that is New Zealand.
I felt like this bracelet would help me remember my connection to the earth even when I'm spending all day studying away from nature.
It may sound silly but that's what I thought about.
Ellen chose a necklace named Flor de Muerto named after the floral gifts that are left to honour friends and family that are no longer present
during the Mexican holiday The Day of the Dead.

Then when the two items (for now) arrived I was super impressed with the quality and the feel to them.
Perfectly crafted delicate pieces that had a lot of love in their creation and now will experience love in their purpose execution.
I know they are going to get a lot of wear (I've already worn the bracelet practically everyday this week)
and I plan on keeping an eye on their new arrivals list till I fall in love again.

21, standing out in the colour of my childhood...

"You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world.
But it takes people to make the dream a reality."

My 21st birthday has come and gone in a blur of organisation and excitement.
The whole event only came together due to a massive effort from my Mom and Aunt and various other helpers.
Certainly took hard work from multiple people to make the dream a reality.

One job I had all to myself was the creation of the birthday outfit.
The theme for the party; Black and White, stemmed from a vision I had of everyone wearing black and white
and there being a bright pop of colour whenever I entered the scene. It's an important birthday, why not stand out?
With this vision in  mind I went fabric shopping and fell in love with a bright textured silk fabric in lime green and pink.
I returned home with some swatches and spent an evening sketching some ideas, and after much thought settled on the bright pink
(flattering and a history with the colour cemented this decision).
Though I couldn't leave the lime at the store alone!
So I got some of that too, it's just waiting for some love and a project to compliment it :).

Anyway, after working on this garment for a couple of weeks each day after uni
(and right up to 1am the day of the party!) it was finished and I was very happy with the result.

dress - my own design
shoes - RMK from Hannahs

lipstick - MAC pro longwear 'dress it up'

My Uncle set up a real professional photo-booth area
(with my dream SLR camera, incredible lens, studio lighting and remote control; jealousy!).
So everyone had a lot of fun with that, including the props.
But I've included a photo Ellen and I took (sans pink mustaches) you'll probably see some more of her outfit soon :).

A very special delivery indeed...

"The difference between style and fashion is quality."
- Giorgio Armani

Whether your a fellow fashion blogger or just someone who loves taking photos, you can understand my pain when it comes to lugging around a DSLR camera.
I personally hate leaving my camera behind when I go out. You can almost guarantee the time you don't bring it is the time you need it.
But on the other hand I hate bringing it with me. I mean a camera can be pretty big to carry around and I'm always to paranoid about getting it wet or scratched up in my bag. Why not use my camera bag you say? Well, its just but ugly and its also terribly uncomfortable.

Insert Jo Totes here!

I walked in from school yesterday afternoon to have my mum present with a huge exciting brown box.
and TADA! My Georgia Plaid camera bag had arrived courtesy of Jo Totes. Who knew camera bags could be so stylish...

I cannot wait to try out my new little friend
(I'm thinking its going to be perfect for the upcoming fashion week)

Stay tuned!

Not for the faint hearted, or self conscious....

"If I walk outside without lipstick, I feel naked."

-Sofia Vergara

For a long time I didn't wear lipstick.
Even after I started getting into makeup, I focused on eyes and you would have been lucky to see some lip stain on me.
But then one day I decided to try it out and gradually I started building up
to the point where the last time I went to MAC I bought the two brightest lipsticks I could find in the store!

Firstly there was Neon Orange (a complete impulse buy):
This is a MAC PRO colour in the amplified creme finish and it's certainly accurately named, this lippy is bright!
It applies smoothly and it quite long lasting so that's great if you're having a busy day; minimal touch ups required.
I love this colour because it's something a bit different to the classic red, but is still high impact.
It also looks very similar to my friends Morange (so would be best to pick one if you've seen both)

And then there was Dear Diary:
This one is from the Beth Ditto collection and was the crazy bright pink I was looking for.
This is one of MACs pro-longwear lipcremes and goes on smoothly (but not at all sticky or extra creamy)  and is probably the longest lasting lipstick I own.
Sometimes you can still see hints of its colour even the next day after washing it off!
I love this blue toned neon pink, so you'll probably see it in many posts to come (I'm surprised there hasnt been one already)

So my bright lipstick search is over for now (with very good results dont you think?)
Luckily the shock of wearing bright lipsticks passed me by, otherwise these would be very hard to wear,
and it's true I've begun to feel a bit naked if i leave home without any lipstick on.

P.S. can you spot the hint in one of the pictures of a post to come soon?

Catching a few of the fading rays...

"Freedom is the open window through which pours the sunlight of the human spirit and human dignity."
 - Herbert Hoover

There's something nice about the way light hits everything not long before the sun goes down.
Giving a warm glow to the world that the harsh light of midday is always missing...

Heart A&F jeans..

"I have often said that I wish I had invented blue jeans:
the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant.
They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity - all I hope for in my clothes."

- Yves Saint Laurent

Is 20 pairs too many?
I admit it, I own twenty pairs of jeans :/
No, I didn't buy every pair myself, many were gifted to me from my Auntie (she so stylash!).

Each pair has a place in my closet (although it can be a bit tight for space in there).

I try not to play favourites and rotate each pair but I must say these Abercrombie and Fitch jeans are my most worn pair...

How many pairs have you got stacked in your closet?

I put together this outfit challenging myself to style my only black and white dress that I never wear.

 Bear Hat: ASOS

Anklet: OASAP
Shoes and wolf necklace: Stolen from my lovely sister ;)
