I mark the hours, every one, nor have I yet outrun the Sun. My use and value, unto you, are gauged by what you have to do

“After all to the well organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.”
“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
“It is a curious thing, but perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it.
Those who have leadership thrust upon them, and take up the mantle because they must, and find to their own surprise that they wear it well.”
“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”
- Albus Dumbledore

If you know me or pay attention to some of the things I write about in my blog posts, you might have noticed I'm a bit of a geek.
So today I thought I'd share a bit more of that with you in the form of my Harry Potter love.
I remember when the books first came out, before they were popular, and I was given HP & The Philosophers Stone as a gift.
I can vividly remember opening that present and thinking, even though I loved/love to read, that it was a boring gift,
why would I want to read this weird book.
Obviously I ended up reading it, and like millions of people all over the world enamored with this world J. K. Rowling had created.
This enjoyment series of incredible books, and eventually movies, has spanned over half my life so far,
and I think they're something I'll continue to revisit and love.

Todays post includes more quotes than normal simply because they were all so good I couldn't pick one!
But then there's also the fashion element, and that is the reveal of my time turner necklace.
I've been wanting one of these for such a long time, when I recieved it as a gift on my birthday I was surprised I was so surprised.
This one is a replica from the movie series, most memorably from the third book/movie
where Hermione uses it to go back in time and take extra classes.
By the time the Prisoner of Azkaban movie came out I was already in love with the idea of a time turner,
and when I saw it I decided I wanted one, only to find out years later you could buy them!

Time turner necklace from WB here

It comes with a display case, and they're not actually meant to be worn (according to the site), but who could leave it in the case?
For now I'm just going to carefully wear it with pride as my badge of geek status,
maybe one day it will help me out when I working on a last minute assignment?

Anyways, thats the end of my geek spaz post, if you managed to make it this far :) haha.

Mama bears jumper..

"Consider it a paler take on the ubiquitous colorblocking trend"
-Fashionect.com

Its funny how fashion works.
Trends come and then they go, but  it is almost guarantee that the cycle will repeat and you will see that trend again
Jumpers like the one I wore today can be seen in almost every store this season.
But, this jumper is actually my mothers that she kept from the last time it was in fashion.

How much jewelry could you fit in one post?

"A designer is an emerging synthesis of artist, inventor,
mechanic, objective economist and evolutionary strategist."

Karen Walker is perhaps one of the most internationally recognised New Zealand designers.
With her cool unique designs it's no wonder celebrities like Alexa Chung, Rihanna and Tyra Banks have been seen in her things.
For my birthday I was lucky enough to get a piece from her filigree jewelry collection.
A detailed and delicate piece that I've been wearing many ways,
one of which being in a jewelry laden outfit...

Bag - Oasap
aggie boots, hand-cuff necklace, top - Asos
Jacket - Valley Girl
"Pocahontas" bracelet - Eclectic Eccentricity
silver bracelet - Stilen
necklace - Karen Walker
magnetic nail polish - Sally Hansen "polar purple"
(see this post for more info)

"Today was a fairytale..."

"If I'm honest I have to tell you I still read fairy-tales and I like them best of all."
-Audrey Hepburn

I think I am more in love with the setting of these outfit photos more than the actual outfit itself.
From the beautiful old house to the climbing wine and little walk bridge, It looks like the scenery for a fairytale,
making it the perfect outfit to go with this cute little Audrey Hepburn quote.

My outfit was also a little inspired by the Rubi and Liam show I saw at fashion week.
I loved the black and white part of the collection with all the chic buttoned up blouses.

This outfit also features my new Kingan Jones skirt that I picked up at the designer garage sale
at fashion week on sale down from $169 to $40!
Such a bargain and its now taken the title of my favourite skirt to wear.

There's a crack in my gray-brown glasses...

"Do not expect the world to look bright, if you habitually wear gray-brown glasses."
- Charles William Eliot
Im a lover of a neutral look.

Outfits with the black and white and creme combination
always looks so chic to me.

But I have a problem.

I find it difficult to ever pull that off because I'm a sucker for bright colours.

When I'm in a store I gravitate towards the black denser areas,
but more often than not I'm torn away by brightly coloured things
that catch my eye across the room.

The bright highlighter yellow neon colour took my eye on the daily commute.
I saw a garment (the first one I'd seen in NZ in this colour) while I was on the bus.
I immediately fell in love, but on closer inspection I didn't actually like the shirt,
just the colour.
Eventually I found another top with a similar colour so I could fulfill my bright colour craving,
well, until the next thing takes my eye....

neon t-shirt - dotti
spike neclace - equip
other necklace - Lovisa
ring and spike bracelet - Asos
leather bracelet with charms - Eclectic Eccentricity

So what colour have you been loving lately?
What's been making it through the gap in your gray-brown glasses?

"Work is hard, distractions are plentiful and time is short" - Adam Hochschild

"Time changes everything except something within us which is always surprised by change. "

This month is September, which for those in the southern hemisphere signals the start of spring.
Although you wouldn't know it from the cold blast we've had in Auckland this week,
it is technically spring now, the prettiest sign has got to be the green tips on all the trees
and bursts of colour as daffodils bloom around the city.
September also means something else; I have been blogging for about a year now!
And my how fast that year has gone (not to mention the three years of my degree).

I made a little collage of some of the photos I've posted over that time.
I've had a fun time spending my time working on what used to be only Ellen's blog.
There's been a few changes over that time in layout and design aspects I've helped with,
and all the little strategies we've tried to make the blog better for our readers to enjoy.

If you're a regular to our blog you might notice we have a new gadget in our sidebar.
I've designed a new links map (after a lot of trying)
If you have time we have links on there to our bloglovin (if you dont already follow us),
Ellen's twitter, both of our tumblrs (Tara & Ellen),
and dahdadadah we have also made a new facebook page!
So if you think you'll find it easier you'll (hopefully) be able to see on facebook when we have a new post.

I know a lot of you have blogs of your own, and we like to read yours for inspiration
and to spend some time surrounded by fashion.
So thank you all for taking the time to read our blog!
It's really exciting to think people (outside of our friends) actually read it and seem to enjoy it!!

So we will continue to try make nice posts you'll enjoy looking at and reading :)

NZFW Part two ♥

"I want to make clothes that people will wear, not styles that will make a big splash on the runway."
- Oscar de la Renta

40 minutes. Yes 40 minutes. That's how late the ruby show was at NZ Fashion Week.

This face is not happy. And I wasn't even one of the unlucky people who were wearing heels waiting around in a line.
From all my NZFW posts you may have gotten the idea that I had a brilliant time at fashion weekend no? Wrong.
The whole event was completely unorganised and really lacked the excitement I expected.
The decorations were unimpressive streamers, with twinkly lights from the ceiling
and fake grass with a couple of white leather couches in an awkward corner.
There was also so much advertised to be able to do at fashion week,
but by 4:30 the Lash bar, Remix stand and the photobooth had closed before I had even got to them :(
Compared to NZ Fashion Festival (which was amazing!) fashion weekend was just... meh, for me.
Oh and did i mention that once we got into the Ruby and Liam show they had moved our seats
so Erin and i were divided by the aisle and weren't even sitting together.

But i must say the ruby show was as fabulous as ever and
the Liam show (Rubys new sister label) was even more impressive!

And to finish off, just some photos Erin snapped after the show down by the waterfront of what I wore to the Ruby and Liam show.

Does anyone else have the same issues as me dressing for a fashion show?
Or just any fashion event in general?
I mean sure you want to look fashionable and on trend,
but then you dont want to cross that line into the over trend
duplicated look, where you look like you have just copied an outfit
on a mannequin. There is always that fear you will look to mainstream
or too last season or just like your trying to hard.
I tried to stick with some of my vintage second hand items to make sure I stood out
a bit more.

These are my confessions : NZFW part two

"Unique and different is the next generation of beautiful"
-Taylor swift

One key item I spotted everywhere at NZ Fashion week was the neon satchel.
It seemed as if you could find one in every room.
But who worked there neon satchel the best? Awesome Asian girl!

Now Erin and I have a little confession, it wasn't just her neon satchel we fell in love with, we have a complete fashion crush on this girl.
Her hair and makeup is flawless and her look was simple yet oh-so-chic.
And this is not the first time we have run into this 'mystery awesome asian girl'.
We saw her a couple of months ago at a Gok show at St Lukes.
We were standing in the crowd next to her, enviously checking out her outfit as
she stood there drinking her juice. (made us want to go get a juice because she looked so cool :P)
We saw her walk by at NZFW and eventually we asked for her photo (see below, she so pwetty!).

So mystery asian girl, if your reading this, you have a little fan club ;)

Awesome Asian Girl

Cannot decide which outfit I love more!

Tehe this two girls were super grumpy when we took there photos :P

These two were our favourite to photograph, loved their outfits!

These two were our second favourites, we saw them from all the way across
the room and were like "omg must get a photo"

She masters the art of making umbrellas look stylish :O

Love her skull necklace!

Awesome pants are awesome!

Comment, follow,
and thanks to all of the gorgeous girls above for letting Erin and I take your photos!
