A butterfly brings change

"If nothing ever changed, there'd be no butterflies."
~Author Unknown

I wanted a butterfly quote to go with this post and the one above about change is just beautiful!
Change is something that many people fear, change is the unknown.
The new year is the beginning of change for many people. It may bring a new school or job or a new friend,
but the important thing to do is embrace change. Like the quote above says, beautiful things come with change.

The inedible greens entering my life...

"Green is the prime color of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises."
- Pedro Calderon de la Barca

I think a lot of the loveliness of spring and summer is from the abundance of green.
From that initial pop of lime as new leaves appear, to the fading green as the temperature cools,
there does seem to be a lot of green in this part of the world this time of year.

You may have noticed I tend to gravitate towards either black or really bright fabric,
and this outfit seems to showcase both of those weaknesses.

Both the top and shorts are two recently (and hurriedly) finished sewing projects of mine to
wear to various Christmas occasions.
I fell in love with this lime green fabric months ago when I also bought its sister fabric in pink to make a dress for my 21st birthday.
I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out however the top did unintentionally end up as a crop top,
so my current thinking is to add a peplum to the bottom; thoughts?

For these photos Ellen and I tried hard to find a blooming pohutukawa tree
(A native New Zealand tree that has amazing red blossoms around Christmas)
but failed and settled with this red tipped hedge instead, we shall keep trying though.
Hope you had a nice Christmas!

Recycle and reinvent...

"Dont be afraid to go out on a limb. That's where the fruit is."
- H. Jackson Browne

A favourite trick of mine when pondering how to re-wear your favourite dresses is to style it with
a skirt over it. This Alainn Bella Dress that I won from Trendy Teal is so beautiful that i really wanted to wear it again, so
i paired it with my trusty black maxi and my new thrifted 40 cents cardigan.

Little touches...

"You can never take too much care over the choice of your shoes.
Too many women think that they are unimportant, but the real proof of an elegant woman is what is on her feet.”
- Christian Dior

As promised, an outfit featuring my gorgeous new lilac heels! The weather today was beautiful so I decided to style them with my favourite summer skirt (Thrifted for $2.50) and finished the look off with this adorable little bow ring that I have had for ages but never worn. I love the lone little accessory sitting on my pinky, it adds a little fun to the look. The shoes may be terribly impracticable, but they sure are gorgeous...

Where the icing to cake ratio favours the icing...

"We have always said that advertising is just the icing on the cake. It is not the cake."

-Meg Whitman

Sometimes I get a piece of cake just so I can have the icing (especially if it's creme cheese) but go on to enjoy the cake too.
Today's outfit is similar in that I got dressed with the intention of wearing my new ballet flats
and the rest kind of spread from there, with a texture black backdrop for some
of my old and new favourite accessories to pop out from.
I'm a fan of accessories and their power to transform an look,
and sometimes I tend to be heavy handed on icing in an outfit also.

I was feeling a bit stuck on how to pose for these photos, hence the random yoga pose and
experimental heart shot (they did turn out kinda cool in the end).

Hopefully the weathers good tomorrow so we can take some more photos with beautiful summer sunshine :)

No, my cardigan is meant to backwards...

"Fewer things are lovelier to me than a full-blown rose when it opens up its heart."

- Audrey Hepburn

Todays outfit was quite the experimental one.
I have been wanting to try the backwards cardigan look for a while now, and when I was stuck with what to wear today
I decided to see how it worked.
I paired my favourite pink cardigan with my trusty black tutu and new DIY floral crown.
I have seen so many floral crowns on my favourite blogs, but after an endless search for the perfect one I decided to
simply make one myself.
I love how it turned out, the flowers almost look real and it adds a dramatic twist to the whole outfit.
Together with the outfit and the slowly setting sun, I had some fun shooting this look. I threw in some jumping,
twirling, dramatic hair throwing and a "Im flying Jack" Titanic pose et viola!

Turn on the lights...

“May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out.”

J.R.R. TolkienThe Fellowship of the Ring

It's that time of year where the Christmas lights pop up on houses around the neighbourhood.
Feeling inspired after putting up our family Christmas tree, We took these photos with some of our fairy lights.
Both dresses were made by our mother for our high school balls and we wanted to show them off in a new light (hehe me so punny).
It was a fun little experience and these were our two favourite photos.

How are you getting into the Christmas spirit?

Fear of falling?

"I have this fear of falling in front of large groups of people. That's why I tend not to wear heels. "

Taylor Swift

I've got to say I can sympathise with Taylor on the falling in heels fear, being uncoordinated can easily cause that.
Recently I have become more interested in stocking up on the trusty flat.
Part fear (I guess), part comfort, and partly because I've been seeing great tumblr
posts of flat wearers like Taylor Swift and Olivia Palermo.

Ellen and I went to a shoe importer sale and came back with a mini haul (all flats)
and today I wore these crème Oxfords with a Taylor Swift inspired outfit.
Luckily there was still some light in the paddock near our house,
so Ellen quickly snapped some nice photos of the outfit.

I've actually worn this same outfit a couple of times this week to various things
when I couldn't think of anything else to wear.
It's been great for the different events and weather changes that frequent Auckland.
I think I'm falling for the flat again (but I'm still a sucker for a good heel, at least for now)

Modelling payment...

“What do women want? Shoes.”

-Mimi Pond

A few weeks ago I got to be apart of the fabulous Whitecliff University graduates fashion show.
As a reward for a days runway work I got these gorgeous shoes!
They are fake Jeffrey Campbells and I just adore the gorgeous lilac colour.
The huge front platform gives me lots of extra height (even though I don't really need it),
but they are still super comfy and easy to walk in.
So prepare to see babies feature in many upcoming outfits...
