DKNY? Nope just Tara...

"Dress shabbily they remember the dress; dress impeccably they remember the woman"
- Coco Chanel

Last weekend I went to the first wedding from my group of friends which was exciting, and very weird
to consider; that everyone's kinda grown up now and have 'proper jobs' (some of us). For the occasion I wanted to
make a new dress from a pattern I traced from a Burda magazine many months ago. After searching the various
fabric stores around Auckland I chose this great black and white print at Nick's for only $2/m!! I'd seen and fallen
in love with the graphic fabric on previous trips, but only noticed after I bought it that there was a C snuck after
the DKNY (what did I expect for bargain fabric) haha. This "50sish, business in the front, party in the back" dress
was worked on for the next week on and off, but finished in the typical project runway style sprint to the finish
 the morning before the wedding.

shoes - number 1 shoes

dress - made by me

A really hilarious moment happened during the ceremony when a girl behind me interrupted a conversation
to tell me how much she loved my dress and she was "obsessed" with it! It was such a nice surprise
compliment from a stranger and made the last-minute stick on bra purchase (to show off the back)
 totally worth it haha!

P.S I hope I'm not the only one that reads the title like "Nope Chuck Testa" lol

Penny Boards Go Moo...

"Usually the thing that signifies that I'm done with the winter and all that is that I start skateboarding."
-Shaun White

Tara and I love beginning every post with a relevant and inspiring quote. Part of the fun of creating a blog post is
searching for that perfect quote. Alas, today I was out of luck and couldn't find a single quote to do with a penny
board! This 80s plastic skateboard has become my new love and obsession. With summer practically here, its
great to finally have the chance to get penny boarding! These photos were taken a few weeks ago on picnic
trip with the boyfriend. My skill is growing and I am no longer a complete beginner, but note to self; do not penny
board on uneven board walks. #fail

Shorts c/o persunmall.com
Sunglasses c/o choies
Shoes : Chuck Taylor
Board : Penny Nickel

I kept my outfit simple, still feeling cautious about my penny boarding ability. Shorts and comfy shoes allowed for
easy bailouts when things went south haha!

Found: A DINO-mite DIY

"Come Cera, three horns never play with long necks."
Daddy Topps - The Land Before Time (1988)

A little while ago on nzgirl someone posted about a DIY ring holder they found on a blog. I had a look and found it had come from a blog called The Band Wife; which soon after rose quickly in the ranks to be one of my favourite blogs! I loved Laura's ring holder idea so decided to give it a go myself. I chose to spray paint my dinosaurs silver (my metal of choice) and really love how they turned out. Though I had visions of a Little Foot and his mom, I couldn't find a large brachiosaurus that was under $50, so went for a Ducky look-alike to hold extras like bracelets (If you don't know what I'm talking about you must go watch the movie this post's quote comes from ;) #nostalgia)

spray paint - Mitre 10 $12
dinosaurs - Looksharp $2

I think these could even make a cool DIY gift for friends this Chritsmas, and if dinosaurs aren't their thing you could choose their favourite animal (as long as it has places to hang things).

I made these little guys as part of a big room organisation effort and I've really been enjoying how easy they make picking rings while keeping it all tidy. Plus they look super cool! ^.^

Sister Style: Visit to the strawberry farm

"I love berries. Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, black berries, anything with an 'errie' in it!"
- Jordin Sparks

Summer may yet to be here officially, but we sure were feeling the heat today. We went on an exciting shopping trip toour favourite secret shoe sale and each picked up something new (soon to be blogged about *wink wink*). Shopping is an exhausting task, so we ended up having a spontaneous stop at the local strawberry farm! The place was absolutely packed and as we queued to buy our strawberries we convinced our mum include to some ice-cream. The classic fresh strawberry ice-cream was delicious and we decided to use it as an accessory for a quick outfit shoot in the strawberry fields. This resulted in some good giggles when we got home to upload the photos and found half of them were of us lapping at our ice-creams like crazed puppies.

Casual clothes for a hot day in a hairdressers chair...

“I am a fashion person, and fashion is not only about clothes -- it's about all kinds of change”
― Karl Lagerfeld

If you follow me on instagram you may have seen the post-exams trip to the hairdresser I had last week (x x).
My hair has been getting so long and tangly from split ends, but it finally got the chop thats been a long time
coming. I have been toying with the idea of something a bit shorter and blunter than usual (x) for a long time, but
held onto the long hair due to indecisiveness. Finally, it became just too annoying to deal with any longer and so
I just jumped. I know it's not even that short, but it's a big change. Luckily it turned out great and I've really been
enjoying the lighter, healthier locks!

lips - Australis Velour Lips in 'Rio-D'
necklace - gift so don't know :/
nails - Loreal 'waters edge'

sunglasses - Onceit
shorts - glassons
tshirt - dotti

There are a whole lot of wild flowers sprouted in the paddock nearby at the moment! So we decided to capture
that along with the new hair moment, both moments which never seem to last long enough haha.

The Pjama trend

"I have a whole army of pyjamas."

- Heidi Klum

Tara and I were feeling inspired when we saw a post on 'The Glamourai' featuring pyjama chic  everyday wear and decided to put together our own look. We admit when it comes to the summer holidays, its tempting to wear pyjamas all day everyday. Unfortunately, its not really classed as that appropriate ;). Little did we know that just around the corner a time was coming where the runways would be swamped with pyjama inspired designs. Its great being able to wear something so comfy but still look 'on trend'. No this doesn't mean you should all go running out in your onesies and flannel two pieces. This trend is all about obtaining the effortless shape of sleepwear, not physically wearing them. We decided to put our styling to the test and give it a try on me!

Top : Glassons
Pants c/o 'Style Keepers'
Necklaces : Diva , Third Eye
Shoes : Novo
Bag : Hedgerow

The key for this trend is to style a loose and baggy two piece set. Whether it be patterned, or plain like
mine, the key is for them to be matching and made of light weight material. Separately this 'Glassons' blouse and
these 'Style Keepers' pants look nothing like something you would wear to bed. But by putting the matching
chiffon fabrics and beige/pink colours together we have that trademark two piece pyjama set!

My favourite 3 quick and easy hairstyles

“People always ask me how long it takes to do my hair. I don’t know, I’m never there.”

-Dolly Parton

We all like to use the excuse that there is no time in the morning to do our hair. Whether your an early riser or
not, hair always seems to be at the bottom of the list for everyone's morning chore. I, however, love getting up
to do my hair in the morning! It can help you start your day, feeling great and providing you with that little
bit of extra confidence. Now there are no more excuses with my new hair tutorial video! I've picked three of my
favourite quick five minute hairstyles that anyone can accomplish. They involve simple braids that are great
basics to learn and build from.

Hope you liked this video, make sure you give it a thumbs up and subscribe to our channel if

Shopping spoils...

“Fashion is only different skins for different flavours of you.”
― Lauren Beukes

So when I went to the Warehouse summer preview a couple of weeks back (post here) and spotted quite a few
things I liked. When nzgirl asked me to do a post on my favourite item I decided I wanted to buy it and style it
rather than just write alongside a product photo. However when I popped into The Warehouse this week to choose
something, I didn't leave with one thing. I sort of went on a shopping rampage getting three things from the Garage
collection and also visiting Peter Alexander, Mirrou, and Whitcoulls (oops).

This outfit comes from part of that shopping; the skirt, shirt and new lippy being new additions. I had to try hard not
to laugh at Ellen and squint into the sun while taking these photos, which as you can see was only mildly successful.

shirt, skirt, boots - Garage (from the Warehouse)

hunger games necklace - Amazon

I HAVE FINISHED EXAMS FOR THE YEAR YAY! Now that it's all out of the way, I've got a list a mile long of things
to do, make, read and watch. Bring on the holidays!
