The short skirt girl

"It's not really a shorter skirt, I just have  longer legs..."
- Anna Kournikova

When I found this quote I couldn't help but laugh. Tara always tells the story of how in high school she was known as "short skirt girl". But the real reason her skirt was so short was because she simply grew so fast. I always have the same problem with a lot of the things I buy online. A skort is my safety net, it's good knowing I don't need to fear flashing my butt to the world.

Skort c/o 'Boohoo'
Top: Gap
Army Vest: 'Choies'
Shoes: Windsor Smith
Sunglasses: Molly N
Hunger Games Necklace : Amazon

This was an outfit I wore last week to uni. These oversized sunglasses have definitely become a friend of mind with these early morning starts. Being so close to town has also resulted in midday cookie and coffe runs. The temptation is everywhere.... o.0

Another Splash of Lorde Inspired Vamp...

"We are all ordinary. We are all boring. We are all spectacular. We are all shy. We are all bold. We are all heroes. We are all helpless. It just depends on the day."
- Brad Meltzer

On this particular day I was channeling Lorde vibes via the (often neglected) darkest lipstick I own. I used to be all about the liquid liner, but over time began introducing bold lips in the mix. Though I'm still a fan, lately I've been pairing my loved bold lip with a simple natural looking eye, a la Lisa Eldrige, and lovin' it! I obviously didn't look too different this day though since the lovely Helena from Helena's Hideaway spotted me cheering on Ellen at Next face of Newmarket (If you're reading this, it was nice to meet you irl! ^.^)

lipstick - MAC prolongwear in 'Soulfully Rich'
shirt dress - Mirrou
leggings - Glassons
shoes - Windsor Smith
sunglasses - Molly N
nail polish - "Splash of Grenadine' by Essie

I bought this polish after recently becoming thoroughly addicted to the youtuber/blogger that is essiebutton. She had been wearing a nail polish that took my eye, and when I saw it in Farmers one day I picked it up regardless of previous experience with Essie polishes. I was pleased to find the formula update has worked a treat, and it goes on well/is pretty durable. Plus the colour is amazing, so this can be put with the successful impulse purchases.

Get ready with me video: First day of university

"Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairytales again"
- C.S Lewis

It's been such an exciting month starting my first year of university. I am loving what i'm studying despite all the hard work. Tara and I put this little video together following me getting ready for my first day. I kept my hair and makeup simple and put together a comfy outfit for running around finding all my classes. Check out the video below to see how I put it all together.

I hope this video gives some of you guys some inspiration for a schoool/uni outfit. Give the video a thumbs up if you want to see more of these 'Get ready with me' style of videos! Oh and dont forget to subscribe to our channel here. (do itttt, you know you want more videos)

Nails, OOTDs and the Best Ugly Bagels...

"You can tell a lot from a persons nails. When life starts to unravel, they're among the first to go"
- Ian McEwen, Saturday

A few Mondays ago we both didn’t start Uni until one, so decided to spend the morning using our vouchers. We had vouchers for a manicure at Equipoise in Herne Bay, so made the trip across town via a bus that was (shockingly) so efficient that we arrived early. So we stopped in at a nearby cafĂ© for coffee and diary meeting pre-manicure.
Once at the salon we then had the hard job of choosing a nail polish colour. In the end Ellen chose a pretty pastel purple and Tara went with white. We then made our way back to our Universities via some of our fav Ponsonby shops ( <3 Askew), and stopped for a snack at the delicious Best Ugly bagels.

It was a lovely way to start a day of lectures, we spent the afternoon admiring our nails while typing and writing notes. They stayed this perfect (i.e chip free) for a whole 10 days! However at the point we tried taking them off we finally saw a downside to them; it's incredibly difficult! We managed to peel them off eventually (along with some layers of nail), maybe we will stick to a classic manicure next time.

The beauty of comfort

"I think there is beauty in everything. What 'normal people would perceive as ugly, I can usually see something of beauty in it"
- Alexander McQueen

I always love to have fun with an outfit, layer bright colours or do something unexpected. This shirt from 'Mirrou' has become my go-to top when I am stuck on what to wear. I wanted put together a casual and comfy look, but still have some kind of edgy factor. Fun printed shorts are great way to reinvent an old top. Next, find yourself a statement accessory (I chose these oversized sunglasses from 'Choies'). Three items recycled from my wardrobe and combined to create a fun new lazy-day outfit. It looks crazy, but when you break it down, it's really a simple outfit.

We all know jellies have been super popular this season. I love how this particular clear pair almost disappears into your feat. Just like Cinderella shoes!

Clinique 3 Step Review Pt 3: How We Wash Our Face

"I'm a big believer in that if you focus on good skin care, you really won't need a lot of makeup."
- Demi Moore

Welcome to our third and final video about our Clinique 3-Step system. If you missed our last videos, check them out here and here.
We've been using the Clinique 3-Step system for just over eight weeks, and though this is just the beginning of our journey to great skin the 3-Step is certainly sending us in the right direction. Throughout the process we've learnt more about skincare and how unique everyone’s skin can be. The Anti-Blemish 3-Step is proving more effective than mismatched, incomplete routines and we've noticed a new brightness and smoothness to our skin.
We’re excited to continue on the journey, and are comforted knowing that whatever changes occur with our skin there are many 3-Step options to keep it looking its best.
In this video we are talking through and showing you how we wash our faces everyday and some tips on the correct way to do the 3-Step routine.

Hope you've enjoyed the Clinique videos :). We have been busy at uni recently, but have plans to make some more videos soon (Sewing Project and much more!)

Nautical 90's

"I dreamed I was buying new shoes last night," said Ron. "What d'ya think that's gonna mean?"
"Probably that you're going to be eaten by a giant marshmallow or something," said Harry.”
― J.K. RowlingHarry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

For those of you that follow me on instagram you might have already spotted this on Ellen in an OOTD. Lets get things straight, this is MY dress (hear that Ellen?). I picked the dress and shoes out only later finding out they were both from boohoo's collection of 'Maritime'. This update on nautical has a 90's influence, including prints like hounds-tooth and many denim options. I was drawn to this dress because it took a current style (drop hem dress, rolled sleeves) and made it feel fresh by combining it with the denim hounds-tooth fabric and asymmetrical hem. After much deliberation over the many choices (#shoeheaven) I settled on these cut-out ankle boots in white to complete the look; comfort and style in one package.

The one problem with being tall (I'm 174cm) is that online shopping often results in things that are too short. Things with 'tunic' or 'smock' in the name seem to be prime culprits, so I would keep that in mind when looking at dresses like this. But if like me, you cant resist, then adding tights works well; especially with the weather cooling down!
