New in: Jeffrey Campbell Boots

"Shopping is my cardio"
- Carrie Bradshaw

So a few months ago I was spontaneously browsing Trademe for Jeffrey Cambell shoes. I have always wanted a pair of JC's and the 'Lita' style particularly calls to me. The chunky heeled boot is considered way too extravagant for many, but I think that's why I love them so much. I usually struggle to find shoes in my size on trade me, but I was in luck when I found these old limited edition Stolen Girlfriend Club x Jeffrey Campbell Emma's. Can we just take a moment to appreciate these glorious things? I've had them for a wee while now so you might have seen a sneak peek of the outfit below if you watch our youtube videos (x). For their first feature on the blog, I decided to keep things simple pairing the shoes with my favourite dark wash jeans and trusty black jacket.

Jacket c/o choies
Jeans : Ashley Fogel
Shoes : Jeffrey Campbell
Lips : Rimmel Kate Moss #107

I just love how unique these boots are combining elements of gothic, western and hippie trends all into a single shoe. The leather is beautiful quality and although the shoes are pre-loved, I got them for $65 instead of $200. Plus they were limited edition, how could a girl resist?
Comment down below if you own any JC shoes!

Tara's Current Style Crush: Emma Stone

"I spend more time than I'd like to admit looking at pictures of other hot girls. I like your hair, I like your makeup... I like your clothes"
Jenna Marbles (see this video on girl crushes)

My Emma Stone girl crush was revved up again during the release/promo of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 this year. Though there are many parts of her that cause this crush, I thought today I'd share an outfit inspired by one aspect; Emma Stone the style crush.
I really love her simple preppy off-duty style. Oxfords, button ups, coats, pants and classic sunglasses shapes seem to be the common factors. With the recent purchase of these metallic oxfords it seemed like the perfect time to give the whole look a try again!

Shirt - Garage (from The Warehouse)
Lips - MYX butter gloss in 'Peach Cobbler'
Sunglasses - Onceit
Coat - made by me
Jumper - Cotton On
Shoes - Clarks

NYX butter glosses review + swatch video

"From the moment it graced my lips I was smitten"
- Estee (Essiebutton)

Recently we've developed a major girl crush on British youtuber Estee, aka Essiebutton. After watching her videos we just had to try out these NYX butter glosses ourslves. This is what we call the #essiebuttoneffect (where we are persuaded to buy everything Estee loves). Many fellow bloggers have raved about them, so we were excited to get our hands on them. We decided a video would be a fun way to show off the colours and share our thoughts on the product.

We all know how hard it is to buy makeup in New Zealand. So we were super excited to find these butter glosses over on 'The Makeup Underground'. It's  a NZ owned business that currently stocks e.l.f and NYX products. It's definitely worth a look for all you kiwi readers.

We hope you guys enjoyed this video, make sure you give this video a thumbs up. And head over to our channel and click that subscribe button!

Hey there Miss 99%

“Excellence is to do a common thing in an uncommon way”
- Booker. T Washington

Monday is commonly seen as the most dreaded day of the week. However this week, it was a really exciting for day for me. I was invited back to my high school to attend a scholarship assembly. I was super shocked to discover I was one of only two year 13 students receiving an award. Even more shocking, my name was called to the stage last as the top student of level three for 2013. Tara received the same award back when she left high school and I just had to share my exciting news here on the blog.

This is what I wore to the ceremony; please excuse the cheeky smile in some of these photos, I was a tad over excited ;)

Singlet: Gap
Skirt &Shoes: Glassos
Jacket c/o choies

The scholarship is awarded to students who achieve over 95% excellence over their top 80 credits (sorry if your not from NZ and dont speak NCEA gibberish). After scoring 99%, my family has taken to calling me '99'. And I must say, I do like the nickname ;)

Real life contexts: fashion in a hospital?

“CĂ©line is not a brand for spectacle, it’s a brand for real life,”

I spent the past week for uni on clinical placement in a hospital, which meant a change of pace outfit and makeup wise (e.g. compared to last time I wore this jacket). Instead of whatever took my fancy I had to think about what was within the dress code and appropriate for the environment. This is an outfit I wore on one of those days (on some of which I was mistaken for a doctor haha!). I did wear my floral blazer one day, but for the most past I've been pretty monochrome and I'm yet to try a non-neutral lipstick colour (maybe this week!)

 shoes - novo
skirt - made by me
shirt - glassons
jacket - choies
 watch - May28th

While putting together this post I only just noticed my wrinkled skirt!? Cringe! But I'm only human (and often utilise a chair or floor storage system oops)

I know this particular outfit isn't super exciting but it does show a different place you need to think about what you're wearing. If you'd like to see another post like this let us know in the comments below

Video Review: Clinique Anti-Blemish Clearing Gel

"Skincare must be good enough to eat!"
- Joanna Runcimann

We're on the mission this year to change our skin story. This year we have been sharing our progress using the Clinique Anti-Blemish products (check out our last video here). Both of us have always suffered from acne and after trying all the products you can imagine, it's been Clinique who have been part of the solution.

We are so excited to share with you guys the new product we have introduced to our skin regime; the Anti-Blemish Clinical Clearing Gel. It already has a permanent place in our daily skin care routine after only using it for a few weeks! Find out why we love it so much in our video below.

Insta-round up with Ellen

"Self love is the elixir of an immortal heart"
- Amy Leigh Mercree

I realised the other day that I hadn't shared any of my Instagram snaps on the blog since the beginning of the year! tsk tsk, I know, but I am making up for it today. I absolutely love Instagram, it's a place to express your own creativity, while also being endless stream of inspiration. I would love to do a blog post everyday, but unfortunately neither Tara nor I have the time. Insert instagram. It's such a great way to share you're favourite photos everyday and on the go. Below are a few of my favourites from the past few months.

Moustahce cookies ft Kardashian wallet // Modelling shoot // new ecoya candle // Catwalk on the Street backstage
boohoo celfie tee // e.l.f makeup haul // benefit bloggers event meeting NZ youtubers // casual OOTD
hair and makeup for school leavers dinner // favourite face products // JC shoe box and 'it' by Alexa Chung // my new macbook

If you liked these pictures, make sure you follow me on instagram. And for those of you who don't have Instagram (you really should), let me know in the comments below if you want to see more of these 'insta-round up' posts.

Ripped jeans and t-shirts

"Your'e stare was holding, ripped jeans, skin was showing,"
- Carly Jepsen (Call Me Maybe)

Jeans are quickly becoming my university outfit go-to. As the weather begins to cool off, having that perfect pair of jeans you love to wear is an essential. I am finally near the end of the enslaught of uni assignments, but these jeans sure have helped me through the busy times. When I'm up late studying and stumble out of bed for that early morning lecture, it's good to know I can throw on my trusty Abercrombie jeans and still look somewhat presentable.

Jeans : Abercrombie and Fitch
Belt : Vintage
Shoes : Hannahs
Bracelet: Pandora
Lips : 'Ma-li-boo' Australis Velourlips

Clinique Story Changers: Our Skin Story

“There is a face beneath this mask, but it isn't me. I'm no more that face than I am the muscles beneath it, or the bones beneath that.”
― Steve Moore, V for Vendetta

In today's video we made something a little different and got a little creative sharing some of our acne/Clinique story.

As fashion bloggers our faces are often at the centre of what we do. And even though we like to take care of ourselves our blemish-prone skin often doesn't reflect that.
We've been using the Clinique Anti-Blemish system full-time since January this year (see initial posts on nzgirl here x, x, x), and have loved seeing the gradual improvements in our skin.
This is a short video we put together about our Clinique/Acne story so far.

Hope you enjoy the video! We had fun filming it. You also get a peek at an outfit post of Ellen's coming soon!

Timing is everything...

“It’s always about timing. If it’s too soon, no one understands. If it’s too late, everyone’s forgotten.”
― Anna Wintour

This outfit comes from a video coming later this week and includes the fluffy ball of amazingness that is the cardigan from our first haul video (here). Now that autumn is officially here I've been embracing warmer clothes and darker colours (though lets be honest I do that all year around, it just feels fitting now haha).

This post is up later than usual because I am up later than usual, trying to finish an assignment due tomorrow. Between bouts of frantic typing and database searches for missing research I am working on this post as micro breaks. Now time to get it done so I can have a sleep before exciting sounding classes tomorrow!
