The 'it' top you need | NZ designer highlight

"Clothes mean nothing until someone lives in them"
- Marc Jacobs

A few weeks ago we attended the Amber Whitecliffe bloggers evening to check out her latest collection. It was a fabulous evening and you can read all about it in this post here if you missed it. While at the event, Tara and I couldn't help ourselves and made a cheeky little purchase. Ever since seeing our two friends Helena and Jessica sporting the AW Maketu Tee, we were in love with it. The top is a beautiful navy colour made of a slightly sheer daisy fabric. I love the way it sits and the interesting bodice shape at the front looks amazing. No doubt this item will be featured in numerous outfit posts to come, but first we wanted to give it a post on it's own to highlight it's awesomeness.

1. Helena & Jessica twinning in the AW tee // 2. A snap from Helena's blog wearing the tee // 3. An instagram selfie in the AW changing rooms

I included some snaps of Helena and Jessica so you can see how they styled the top; aren't they fab? We love supporting New Zealand designers and if your a kiwi gal, you should definitely look into buying this top!

What to Wear this Party Season | The Warehouse Summer Fashion Pt I

"It is easy to decide on what is wrong to wear to a party, such as deep-sea diving equipment or a pair of large pillows, but deciding what is right is much trickier.”
― Lemony Snicket, The Slippery Slope

We hate to shock you, but Christmas is coming. And with Christmas comes parties and the pressure of picking the perfect outfit. This is our first of three posts with The Warehouse to give you some ideas for what to wear this summer. Today we are sharing two outfits you could wear to a Christmas or New Years occasion.

top// Maya $25
skirt//  Garage $20

Ellen's look is centered around this gorgeous metallic top which could easily be dressed down with a pair of jeans. There are a couple of metallic options in the Maya range that we really loved.

shoes// Garage $19
dress// Garage $29

Tara fell in love with this fabric the moment she saw it. With a slight animal influence and a really cool strap detail, this dress would be perfect for day or night.

This post was made possible thanks to The Warehouse and nzgirl :) for more on #officialblogger see here

OOTD: bananas & midriff experimentation

"This shh is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S"
- Gwen Stefani

The moment I spotted this banana print fabric in Cotton On I was in love. I was however a little unsure on the cropped style of the t-shirt. Crop tops have been a massive trend these past few summers but the few I own never seem to sit right. Being 5'11, crops tops can easily become overly cropped on me and result in a lot of midriff on show. The reason I love this banana top is its the perfect length. Although I'm not usually one to bare my mid-section, I felt I little daring last week and decided to try wearing the top with my favourite Esprit mid-rise jeans. I am still not 100% convinced about this whole midriff thing, but I can say I am completely in love with this banana print.

Cardigan : Glassons

After searching for a quote for this blog post Tara and I couldn't help, but thing of Gwen Stefani's 'Hollaback Girl' song. I'm having total throwback moment watching the old music video. She's even wearing a crop top in the video, how convenient ;)

OOTD | A Post-Exams Pyjama-less Look

“Only those with no memory insist on their originality.”
— attributed to Coco Chanel

Since doing a remix post about this vest I've been wearing it even more! Wearing this jacket also has the bonus that I can leave the house without hauling around a bag full of everything I might need (instead I fill up the many pockets). We found this beautiful blossoming tree on our way home today and decided it was the perfect place to snap some photos of our outfits!

OOTD | Floral Pants

"I like being a woman, even in a man's world. After all, men can't wear dresses, but we can wear pants"
-Whitney Houston

I've worn these patterned pants a lot this year. You would think being so crazy they would be difficult to style, but I've come to find them quite the opposite. They go perfectly with a simple black or white t-shirt and today I decided to try them out with my white button up blouse. The fabric of these pants are also quite light weight, so fingers crossed they can make an appearance during summer. If you've been umming and ahhing about patterned pants. Let me convince you; you need a pair. Trust me, you won't regret it.

Thanks for all the positive comments on our DIY beauty advent calendars video, you guys are amazing! Watch it here if you missed it, and stay tuned for a new video coming later this week :)

Remix: The Army Vest

"Twice and thrice over, as they say, good is it to repeat and review what is good."
- Plato

This morning I was meant to get up early to take outfit photos before Ellen went to work, but after a late night watching the first season of American Horror Story and the fact that I was just spending the day studying mean't this didn't happen. Instead I thought I would share another 'Remix' post of a well-loved item in our closet. Last time I focused on my blush button up blouse, and this time I've combed through the archives for appearances of our favourite army-style vest.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
It also appears in the videos How to Style Boyfriend Jeans and Youtubers OOTD.

Ellen chose this vest (something she regularly reminds me of) when we had a voucher for the choies website a while ago. When it arrived I fell in love and I have since then worn it many many times and it now lives in my wardrobe oops. It has lots of super handy pockets, is cool in summer, wind blocking in winter and a great addition to any outfit.

Mrs Pinto by Amber Whitecliffe | The Bloggers Night

"Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself"
- George Bernard Shaw (This quote was in gold lettering on Amber's shop wall)

Last Thursday we headed to the Amber Whitecliffe boutique in Parnell to check out her latest collection 'Mrs Pinto'. The collection is full of pops of red and great patterned fabric from as far away as Mood in New York, or close to home like one designed and printed locally. We were lucky enough to also hear from Evelyn Ebrey about her career in fashion journalism.

There were some key things we learnt that evening which made us even more excited about the collection and Amber Pinto (née Whitecliffe) in general:

1. The collection was inspired by her new husband Elroy and his Portuguese-Indian heritage (cute).

2. All the pieces are cut by Amber herself in the Parnell store and until recently were all sewn by her too!

3. Amber used to be a blogger herself!

4. Amber's favourite part of the collection was the silk she had printed after designing it with friend Tessa Seven.

5. This year Amber got married, showed for the first time at NZFW, and opened her boutique. She also does all the behind the scenes work for her label like run the instagram, do the taxes, and all the PR. She's one hardworking. talented lady!

Petal cupcakes and strawberries, yum!

The 'Familia Dress' we fell in love with!! *heart eyed emoji*
The fabrics under the polka dot cutting table

It was a great evening and many of the other gorgeous ladies there have done posts on the collection too if you'd like to find out more!

- Britney who I snapped in front of the chillies above had a Q+A with Amber here and also did an awesome video here
- Helena from 'Helena's Hideaway' shows some of her Mrs Pinto favs here
- Steph who we met earlier in the year at an NZYT gathering did a post here
- We also met Tash from 'My Wardrobe On A Blog' (pictured above in the awesome blue fur/leather combo) did a post here
- We also met Nicole from 'Nicrific' IRL and her post can be found here
- Sophie from 'Nana Wintour' did a FOTD post from the event here

The 'Mrs Pinto' collection is available in store and should be online soon.

We may have also made a cheeky AW purchase on the night, but more on that later ;)
