Spring Trend Alert PT 2 - Athletic Florals

"Fashion is expensive. Style is not. Some of the most stylish girls I know are certainly not the wealthiest."

- Nina Garcia

Spring is rapidly approaching and that means spring fashion is hitting stores now! To get a jump on some spring trends this year we have put together some inspiration around a few key trends with nzgirl and The Warehouse and how you can achieve them without breaking the bank. (you can read PT1 on #normcore here)

1, 2, 3, 4

Florals will always be found in spring fashion as we celebrate the end of winter. This season however, were combining florals with sporty bomber jackets and basketball tees. It's an unusual combination, but this trend is really taking off. Athletic florals are easy to wear and are something fun and different to try.

Blogger Challange Outfit #2 | 2 Outfits for $100 with The Warehouse

"Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every sixth months "
- Oscar Wilde

When spring comes along, we all get excited in anticipation for the warm summer days soon to be upon us again. Often however, the new season brings disappointment as we pull out  clothes from that previous summer and realise last seasons look will no longer make the cut. Whenever spring rolls around, we always try to give our wardrobes a little refresh. Insert part two of our Spring Blogger Challenge! The challenge was to create two outfits for $100 from the Garage spring collection at The Warehouse. It's surprising how much it can cost to buy an entire outfit these days, but we successfully managed to put together two pretty darn good ones (if I do say so myself) for only $50 each.

Top: $15
Skirt: $29

Make sure you check out Tara's part one of this Spring Bloggers Challenge here if you missed it!

Initially we were each going to style each look with a pair of ballet flats, but the moment we tried on these black wedges we knew we had to have them. We decided to pool the remaining money from our budget and share the wedges, although we both love them so much I'm not so sure sharing was a good idea ;)

Tara's 3 Easy Hairstyles for Short(ish) Hair

“I think that the most important thing a woman can have- next to talent, of course- is her hairdresser.”

― Joan Crawford

This weeks video is a tutorial on three hairstyles for short hair Tara has been liking since she had a chop to a 'lob' haircut (long bob). They're pretty easy to achieve so you won't need a hairdresser to do it for you (the braid is probably the most difficult but it's super easy once you've practised). The first is a half up half down bun type thing. The second is curled using our NUME titan 3 (she used the 19mm barrel). The third and final look uses the curls from the second and involves a dutch braid/reverse french braid of the front fringe pieces of hair.

Hope you enjoy the video and remember to check back next week for Ellen's favourite hairstyles for long hair! (you can subscribe to our channel here)

Blogger Challenge Outfit #1 | 2 outfits for $100 with The Warehouse

“You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep Spring from coming.”

― Pablo Neruda

In our previous post we put together some inspiration about #normcore and how that look can be achieved on a budget with the Garage range at the The Warehouse. Today we are back with Pt 1 of our Spring Blogger Challenge to put together two outfits from the Garage spring collection for $100.

I had an idea in my mind for what kind of look I wanted to go for, but when I spotted this kaftan/kimono that went out the window. I based the outfit around it with a couple of pieces overlapping with Ellen's outfit to keep it on budget. We both fell in love with these sandals as they finished off our outfit well and are comfier and easier to put on  than most sandals of this style (Velcro is a fantastic invention). Plus they were a bargain at $19 (The Warehouse is where everyone gets a bargain after all haha ;] )

singlet - $15
skirt - $15
kimono - $25
sandles - $19

Stay tuned for PTII with Ellen's outfit (she looks gorgeous frolicking around in the daffodils!)

Spring Trend Alert PT I - Button-up Shirts and #normcore

"Fashion is expensive. Style is not. Some of the most stylish girls I know are certainly not the wealthiest."
- Nina Garcia

Spring is rapidly approaching and that means spring fashion is hitting stores now! To get a jump on some spring trends this year we have put together some inspiration around a few key trends with nzgirl and The Warehouse and how you can achieve them without breaking the bank.

A good blouse is a definite wardrobe staple and is a great transition piece for when the weather starts to warm up. This spring style your blouse buttoned up to your neck for a simple and chic look. Keep it crisp and clean in light pastel colours.

The Normcore trend is really taking off this spring. Normcore fashion is all about neutrals and low key fashion. It's all about relaxed jeans and keeping it simple. It's probably one of the easiest to wear trends this season. (There's a vogue article about it here)

Coming later this week are two outfits part of a Blogger Challenge to put together two outfits from the Garage spring collection for $100. We are super excited about the pieces we found so stay tuned for those photos :)

Classics for times of less time...

"Fashion is mysterious, as a rule. Why are blue jeans a classic? You just hit on something that happens to be timeless and right."
-Diane von Furstenberg

Sometimes life is busy and you have a day where you don't really want to wear anything fussy, all you need is the classics that you know will get you through the day. This outfit comes from a day where I had a full day of lectures then bloggers club in the evening. So even though it would have been nice to be wearing something trendy. I went with a combo of tried and tested classic pieces that would follow me through the busy day fuss free.

shirt - Gmarket
jeans - Esprit
leather jacket - Just Jeans
shoes - converse
nails - Essie 'Splash of Grenadine'

It was quite windy on this particular afternoon, so taking any outfit photos without the *there's hair in my mouth ew ahh clothes everywhere* face was tricky. In the end there were the acceptable windswept ones above.

P.S for more ways to style a plaid/flannel shirt this week we made a video about it here :)

Winter Challenges

"What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness"
- John Steinbeck

There have been a number of cold snaps passing through Auckland these last few weeks. The cold weather has really been challenging my styling skills. It’s become oh-so-tempting to just throw on leggings and an oversized jumper for those early uni starts (that may have happened today, oops!). For this outfit I tried something a little different. In winter I pretty much live in jeans, so I mixed it up a bit pairing this black asymmetrical skort with black tights.

Scarf : Postie Plus
Shoes : Hannahs
Bag c/o OASAP

I really think it’s the jacket that made this outfit. The black and white detailing takes the outfit up it to a whole new level. But don’t be fooled, this outfit was still super comfy and easy to wear.

Side note - these photos were hilarious to edit. I was having some wind issues hence the huge laughs.

OOTD: What I wore to the Guardians of the Galaxy

“There's more to clothing than just adornment. It does more than merely change how the world perceives us. It changes how we perceive ourselves.”
― Jacqueline Carey

Yesterday I finally went to see Guardians of the Galaxy. I say finally because it was my third attempt due to dodgy reading skills (I blame in part the cinemas dodgy website). Yesterday was the day it was actually released so I went along with my movie buddy Deborah with this get-up on. The movie was really good; a reasonably straight forward plot, but sometimes that's not a bad thing, and it was full of laugh out loud moments with great characters. If you have never heard of the post-credit clip at the end of Marvel movies you're missing out! This time a little group of people stayed in the theater to watch it and it was like a fun little club (and we all laughed together with confusion at GOTG's clip).

Yesterday something else exciting happened, the NUME hair curler we bought, using one of the many discount codes on youtube, arrived. My old hair curler was absolutely useless and I've been keen to try out curling with the new haircut, so it was perfect timing. This was it's first trial (using the smallest barrel) and I think it turned out pretty good.
