OOTD | Comfy tee and shorts

tshirt - boohoo // shorts - Garage (from the Warehouse) // shoes - Windsor Smith

Oh hello again my familiar 'Celfie' tee. It's currently summer here in New Zealand and I must say it has left me with little desire to get dressed. When the weather is this hot I can't help but reach for a comfy tee and shorts. I think I have worn these shorts almost every day I havent been working these past few weeks, they are so light weight but the awesome print makes it look like I put a lot more effort into my outfit than I actually did.

OOTD | Simple Lines

shirt - Glassons // skirt (actually a dress) - made by me // bag - Kikki K // shoes - play motives // lips - Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in 'Cruella'

Lately I've been quite drawn to simple clothing items. Whether the simplicity comes from the colour, fabric or cut, there's just something about that style that has drawn me in. This outfit stemmed from the love of the minimal trend which caused this new shirt to enter my closet after a mini lunch break shopping spree. I love the lines of it, like the split in the side and the covered button placket.

We saw this garden full of beautiful sunflowers and had to capture it in the background, Ellen even risked standing in the middle of the road for a full body shot!

Face of the Day | Makeup Obsessives Event

Last weekend we attended the Auckland meetup for the facebook page Makeup Obsessives, which was started by the lovely Kirsty. It's basically a whole lot of girls who like makeup sitting in one room, hanging out and chatting about makeup (plus great goody bags and prizes!). For the event we decided to go all out makeup wise and even put on some false lashes! Today we thought we'd share the looks and what went into them.

ELLEN// eyebrow kit in 'Medium' - Elf / 'High lights' highlighter in 'Gold' c/o Australis // 'AC/ME' eyeshadow in 'Jay-Zed' c/o Australis // 'Fresh and Flawless' powder in 'Natural' c/o Australis // 'Colour Tattoo' eye shadow in 'Bad to the Bronze' - Maybelline // Gimme Brow in 'Light' - Benefit // blush in '36' Art Deco // 'Sculpting Powder' contour - Kevin Aucoin // individual lashes - Tanya Burr // 'Chocolate' bronzer - Bourjois // 'They're Real' mascara - Benefit // liquid eyeliner - Eyeko // lipliner in 'Tawny' - Jordana // Super + BB Triple Function - Skin79

TOP OF THE LOT: Kevin Aucoin Sculpting Powder // I love contouring, but it can be a scary thing when you're still a bit of a beginner at makeup like me. After hearing so many of my favourite bloggers rave about the Kevin Aucoin Sculpting Powder, I decided to be a little extravagant and pick one up during's black friday sale. This product completely lives up to the hype! It's incredibly easy to work with and creates the most beautiful natural contour to your face.

TARA// 'Stay Matte' powder in 'Translucent' - Rimmel // 'The Falsies' mascara - Maybelline // eyebrow pencil in '05' - Art Deco // 'baked blush' (highlighter) in 'Pinktastic' - Elf // eyeshadow duo in 'Kalahari' - NARS // eyelash glue - Duo // half lashes - QVS // 'knot-free double flare' individual lashes - ardell // 'fit me' concealer - Maybelline // liquid eyeliner - elf // 'mineral baked' blush in 'Luminous' - Milani // BB cream in 'Medium' - Maybelline // 'Megalast' lipstick in 'Cherry Bomb' - Wet'n'Wild // 'Hoola' Bronzer - Benefit

TOP OF THE LOT: Wet'n'Wild Megalast lipstick in 'Cherry Bomb' //  I got this lipstick from Ellen this Christmas in my DIY beauty advent calendar. Even though it may seem like quite a dark colour for summer, I have worn it so much. I haven't found the formula drying like some people have asked, and I just clean up the edges with a lip brush after applying. I also heard it is a dupe for MAC's 'Diva', so if you aren't sure about darker lipsticks this could be a great bargain to try out!

DIY Stone Necklace Video

Today Tara shows you how to make a necklace that looks kind of like cracked/veined stone but out of bakeable polymer clay. There are so many different colour and shape combinations you could do, and we think they could make cool gifts (three packets of clay made about 7 necklaces).

You Will Need:
- Bakeable moulding clay (Tara used Fimo)
- Paint
- Paint brush
- Sandpaper
- Wire
- Pliers
- Jumprings
- A chain (with a clasp)

You can find the original blog post with a different style of necklace here :)

The floral summer dress

If you watched our weekly christmas videos, this dress will probably look very familiar. I picked it up on sale at Farmers for 50% off! I wore it to a few Christmas shindigs last month and was really happy with how it looked.

I don't usually shop for clothes at farmers and I actually went in with intention of buying dry shampoo (which I completely forgot to buy in the end). While I was waiting in line for the changing rooms, I got chatting with some of the ladies behind me as well as some of the staff. When I came back out of the changing room, the ladies eagerly asked if I was getting the dress. When I said yes, the whole line started to cheer. When you get people cheering, you know you've found a good dress.

OOTD | Summer's Day Basics

I've never been a fan of hot weather. Some people look forwards to warm summer's days, but as someone that gets easily overheated, I crave the cold. On hot days, like those frequenting Auckland at the moment, I reach for a basic outfit like this. I wore this out to get supplies for the homemade pizza + Sims night we had with our cousins recently.

Blogger Highlight: Interview with Leonie Barlow from 'The Style Insider'

This weeks video is a little different and not something we have done before on SSC. Ellen made this mini documentary for a university assignment last year and thought it would be a cool idea to share it with you all on our blog.

Leonie Barlow worked in magazines for 20 years, until 3 years ago when she decided to start her own blog called 'The Style Insider'. She is now one of New Zealand's top bloggers and in this interview she about why she made the move from magazine editor to blogger. Leonie is one fab woman and if it wasn't for 2 minute time restriction for the assignment, this video would have been a lot longer!

We hope you guys enjoyed this video, let us know if you did! And remember to check out Leonie's blog here.

OOTD | How to wear a kimono

This is an outfit I wore a few weeks ago on our visit to the World of Wearable Arts exhibition at the Auckland Museum. With the weather warming up, I have really been enjoying wearing my Kimono. It's a great way to add layers to your outfit in summer. This particular one is all black with tassels. Although the tassels seem to fall off all around the house, I really love this one! I find it quite versatile as it doesn't have a crazy print/pattern like most other Kimonos. For this outfit I styled it with a simple grey tee, a skort and a hat.
