How to Stay Motivated - Top 5 Tips

I'm about to reach the half way mark of my final year of university and like many other students, the motivation is starting to waver. Realistically that race to the finish line becomes more of a crawl. For todays post I wanted to share some of my tips for staying motivated. I thought typing them up in a blog post could help as motivation for myself and hopefully these tips will help some of you guys too.

1. Set goals
There is a reason they made us practice goal setting in high school, it actually really helps. Having an articulated goal to strive towards can really help push you to work harder and keep you focused on what you actually want to be achieving.

2. Read the biography of someone you admire
Reading someone else's life story where they share both their successes and hardships always inspires me. This is probably my favourite tip from this post actually! If your a fashion lover I would recommend giving Grace Coddington's memoir a read as well as Diane Von Furstenberg's.
See our post about must-read fashion books here for more info about these books

3. Reward yourself and have something to look forward to
I knew this would be a hard year at university, so I decided to save up my summer earnings for an overseas trip at the end of the year. I even have a little counter app on my phone counting down the days till our flight leaves. Having something positive to look forward to can get you through the rough patches.

4. Have a side project
When uni gets busy, having a creative side project actually helps me stay motivated. Whether you want to start a blog, take up a new sport or try opening your own online store, having something you're passionate about on the side can help create a nice balance to your life and stimulate your creative juices.

5. Take a day off
Step away from the computer and take a day off to recharge your batteries. Although it might be hard,  I find that taking time away from your work and going for a walk or doing some exercise makes me come back more motivated and productive.

What helps you stay motivated? Let us know in the comments below cause sometimes staying motivated is hard and we'd love to know your tips!

What to Wear to a Wedding

As someone who loves any opportunity to dress up, I always get excited when it comes to attending a wedding. The bride's not the only one who gets to wear a beautiful dress, the attendees can to! I just love the glamour and formal attire that comes along with a wedding. A dress is my item of choice for a wedding, but if it's a day-time ceremony make sure it's an appropriate length and not too 'night' looking. If your attending an evening soiree then perhaps you could push something a little more edgy.

I've worn this particular dress to two weddings and I am obsessed with it. It was originally from asos but I thrifted it for around $20. The colour is what first drew me in, but I also love the pleating and the lace detailing. There is something about it that just says 'wedding' to me. It's comfortable, has good length, and overall is quite classy.

How I Dress for Casual Fridays

Technically we don't have an explicit 'casual friday' at my new work, but I decided to do it anyway and this is one outfit I have been wearing a lot recently. Since I am working 6 days a week at the moment I don't get many opportunities to wear jeans, so why not make one?

If you'd like to see more outfits featuring turtleneck jumpers check out our lookbook here for some fun editing.

Jeans - Esprit // Jumper c/o The Warehouse // Shoes c/o ECCO // Sunglasses - Komono from Shop Anomie // Lips - 'Pacific' by Elizabeth Street Cosmetics // Rings - Karen Walker, Pandora, Asos eco edit

New York Fabric & New Zealand Made

My entire family loves watching Project Runway, even my Dad gets into it. When my Auntie visited New York, she brought back Tara and I a piece of fabric each from Mood, aka the famous fabric store in Project Runway. My sewing skills aren't quite up to scratch yet, so I had to get mum to help out with this one, but we ended up using the fabric to make this beautiful dress. We actually made it last year for Christmas, but I have worn it so many times since. Funnily enough, it has yet to feature in its own blog post so when I found this old outfit photos hidden in the depths of our hardrive I decided to put together a post to share.

If you watched my 'Birthday Get Ready With Me' video you would have seen this dress pop up, but here it is in daylight haha! I really love how versatile this dress is, I have worn it dressed up on many occasions. But for this look I styled it with a trench coat and flat shoes to give it a more everyday feel.

Dress - handmade // Coat c/o boohoo // Shoes - The Iconic // Bag - Michael Kors Greenwich Tote
