What to Wear on a Cruise - OOTD

I've always spent my holidays with my feet firmly on the ground either camping or skiing. But a few weeks ago I was lucky enough to travel to Sydney and spend four days cruising up the coast of Australia for work. After the trip I sure can see why people love cruises! It was very relaxing and the ship had everything you could possibly need for a blissful holiday. Of course me being me needed a new outfit for my travels, so the day before I left New Zealand I headed to Zara. I picked up this gorgeous off the shoulder top with statement sleeves. Paired with my skinny jeans, scarf and Balinese straw bag, I think it made for the perfect cruise outfit! Since buying this bag on our trip to Bali last year it's become noticably popular on Instagram so I must remember to pull it out more. Let me know in the comments below what you think and if you've ever been on a cruise before.

Queenstown Photo Diary

I visited Queenstown for the first time last year and it's quickly become one of my favourite places in New Zealand. It's such a picturesque place and everywhere you go you'll want to stop and take photos. Back in April Connor and I flew down for a weekend trip and even though it was a short holiday, we still managed to do so many fun things. Today thought I'd share a couple of photos from the trip as well as our travel video if you missed it on our Youtube channel!

Why do New Zealander's wear so much black?

Kiwis are well known for their love of black clothing. It could have ties to the history of black sporting uniforms, well known internationally through our love of the All Blacks rugby team. The choice of black sports uniforms has been linked to the availability of black at the time, as well as standing out from other international teams, and not showing dirt as easily. It's often a shock for visitors as to how many people are wearing black. The phenomenon has be said to have started in the 1990's and hasn't shown any signs of going away. New Zealand designers such as Nom*D and Zambesi are known for their iconic love of monochrome and black clothing. Though some people say it looks like we are all going to a funeral, I don't think the sea of black will stop any time soon! I'm personally a huge fan of an all black look. For this outfit I added a khaki tshirt to the mix, but I would say it's still a pretty black look haha!

1920s Great Gatsby Inspired Outfit

I never thought I would be sitting here in June saying I've been to Australia twice already this year! I can't wait to travel more in the future, but had pretty much written off any overseas adventures at the beginning of this year seeing as I'd just started my first job. But a few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be sent away on a luxurious cruise to write a travel story for Woman's Day. I've got a bundle of photos to share plus a vlog coming very soon - but more on all the epic details later.

For now I thought I'd kick things off by sharing a couple of photos from the 1920s party we attended on the second night of the cruise. Connor and I got all glammed up and - in my totally unbiased opinion - we were the best dressed there hehe! I also filmed a quick get ready with me video which you can find at the bottom of this post. It's not everyday I get to sit out in the sunshine and do my makeup with that view!

New to my closet // Autumn Winter 2017

This year after a big wardrobe clean-out I've made quite a few new additions to my closet, so today I thought I'd share a few.

Item 1// Jumper - Kowtow

The first of the new additions to my closet comes from Kowtown in a revolutionary NZ colour choice  for winter (not). Jumpers and colder weather are like two peas in a pod and I always look forward to the time of year I can start adding warmer layers. The organic cotton of the knit feels really nice compared to scratchier jumpers I've owned over the years and I love the texture and detail of the seed stitch. I have been eyeing this up since they were sold out last winter so snapped one up when I saw it was in stock!

Another Kowtow purchase this time a long sleeve striped top that I've already had heaps of wear out of. I mentioned this in our March Favourites video (click here to watch) and the love has not waned. This is such an easy to wear comfy piece that I've worn to work and on weekends.

Item 3// Bell-sleved top - Made by me :)

This top was made during a time where I was trying to spend less and inspired by the bell sleeve/ruffle trend that has been in stores recently. The neckline could've been better but it didn't turn out too bad for a top with a pattern I made up as I went!

Item 4// Leather Jacket - The Warehouse

After Ellen kind of claimed our other "shared" pleather jacket from The Warehouse I decided to get one of my own and The Warehouse always has good cuts and price points for theirs. If an outfit is missing something I always find a leather jacket can finish the look and this classic cut does the trick well.
Item 5// Sunglasses - Illesteva from SmartBuyGlasses

Item 6// - Pleated Skirt - Closet London from Asos

I picked up this skirt for something nice to wear to Ellen's 21st birthday and that I could also wear in a range of situations. I decided on a pleated skirt that I could dress up or down and chose this leather look number from Closet London (in blue of course). I've worn it lots since and even put it in our May favourites this month (below)

I hope you enjoyed this peek into some new things in my wardrobe!

A Winter Outfit of the Day + New Purple Hair

Winter has officially arrived here in New Zealand! The recent cold snap has had me dusting off my favourite winter coat and boots and while the end of summer can be a bit of a downer for some, I'm excited to play around with some new outfits. Use the new season to try something new with your style and be a little bold. I actually dyed my hair purple a few weeks ago and have been enjoying styling it with my outfits. If you missed the video on our youtube channel, check it out below to see how I dyed my hair.

Pallet Laptop Desk DIY

Today I'm sharing how I made my pallet laptop tray for using my laptop in bed. I got this idea while I was on the hunt for laptop trays and saw one of taramilkteas instagram posts. I made mine without a centre bar and little higher so my legs could fit under but I still love how it turned out!

Materials I used:
  • a length of 180mm x 2m pine cut into 2x: 20cm x 40cm & 4x: 9cm x 47cm
  • 16x galvanised wood screws 10g x 60mm
  • 4x L brackets
  • 8x screws 12mm

Tools used:
  • Makita circular saw
  • Makita cordless drill
  • rachet screw driver
  • 2x saw horses
  • Irwin quick-grip clamps

The materials only cost me 12$NZD if you use some recycled or leftover wood, or about 40$NZD if you buy new wood from the hardware store. You can also get your wood cut at the hardware store if you don't have a saw available.

We hope you enjoy the video, remember to tag us in a photo if you try it out for yourself!

Disney Cinderella Inspired 21st Birthday

A few weeks ago I celebrated my birthday with a Disney inspired party. With the help of my family and friends, we transformed our garden and downstairs area to make quite a magical place! As you can probably tell from the photos, I drew a lot of inspiration from pinterest when planned the decor. I think my favourite part has to be the long dinner table! We hired candelabras, gold cutlery and these amazing carriages that my mum used to make floral centrepieces. I was too busy having such an awesome time I didn't really get many photos, but here are a couple below, plus a vlog from the day where you can see a lot more details.
